I am a ceramic sculptor that mainly works by hand. I am a recent graduate with a Bachelors degree in Design with Honours. My specialist area is hand building. I studied a 2 year AVCE in art and design at Southport college. My main area of focus was 3D design and it wasn't until the final year in a ceramic workshop that I discovered that I had the ability to manipulate clay by hand. My ceramics tutor saw that I had a natural talent with this media and quickly advised me to pursue this practice in university. I then attended Staffordshire University to study a Bachelors Degree, unfortunately the course was a tableware course and did not suit my style of work so I transferred to Liverpool Hope University were I had the freedom to sculpt pieces that were more my style. I graduated in 2008. The main inspiration behind a lot of my work is nature. I have been interested in nature and art from a very young age and this has shown through out my life in the art work I produce. I am very passionate about hand building but through out my studies I learnt other methods of producing pieces that I would like to interpret into my work. I have also worked with other media, such as glass, that I would like to include in my work. Although I am very passionate about the work I produce I appreciate that there is still so much more I can learn and this will only help me improve as a sculptor and a ceramicist. |
