Hi, my name is Marion Baldwin and I have been painting china and porcelain for 23 years as a hobby. I currently work full time as an experimentalist in a Hazards laboratory. Earlier this year it was announced that everybody working in the Company was to be made redundant. Most people were shocked at the news and many worried about their next step. My reaction was the complete opposite. Hurray, I thought, a new chapter in my life is about to begin. I’ve decided that I will try and make a living from using the china painting experience I’ve gained over the last 23 years, and impart my knowledge to others to help them enjoy the journey of learning china painting techniques.
Several years ago I gained qualifications in City & Guilds, ordinary and advanced levels. These qualifications help me to plan workshops and demonstrations. They will also enable me to write clear and concise china painting instructions, that can be easily understood by others. The training and knowledge gained by doing the advanced City & Guilds which concentrated on original design aspects has given me the confidence to aspire to producing my own designs and using many modern techniques. This will hopefully bring china painting into the 21st Century.
My employers have not been given me an official leaving date yet, but it will be before the end of 2009. I’m excited and eager to start my new venture and my head is constantly buzzing with innovative ideas and designs. I have already been booked for several workshops and have been invited to be a demonstrator at the Centigrade˚ Show in September 2010. I can’t sleep for excitement and I’m working every spare minute on china and porcelain developing new techniques and ideas.
